Butterfly Knot

The Bays Precinct located between Pyrmont and Balmain, two kilometers west of the Sydney CBD, comprises the waterways and foreshores of four connected bays west of Darling Harbour. Considering the geographical advantage, the beneficial beautiful view of the skyline, its historical and cultural value, as well as the future development of the Sydney West Metro, the Bays Precinct has the huge potential to be redeveloped. As Landscape Architect, we want to create diverse and sustainable open spaces for the future increasingly dense urban environments and make them better for all living organisms. Butterfly Knot is a project to explore the possibility of regenerating the Bays Precinct as a post-industrial landscape based on the principles of transport-orientated development. It aims to develop the Bays in a more sustainable and humanizing way and to maximize its future ecological, commercial, social, and entertainment values -- A place for both humans and ecology; A place to connect neighborhoods; A place for sustainable development. The project was designed through staggered phasing, it was carried out simultaneously with the Sydney West Metro Project. This allows the redevelopment and regeneration processing in a more efficacious, economized, resilient, and long-time development. Through this process, the Bays Precinct will not only be designed by the designer but also will be interacted with the ecology. Butterfly Knot -- A knot to connect neighborhoods for humans and other ecology.
