Everyone has a special place they return to whether it’s their homes, the beach, or the park. It is a form of connection which is called “place attachment”. White Bay is rich in historical identity that has been left to decay and is now a symbol of Balmain, a "landmark of entry". The project explores ways to REconnect with the ebbs and flows of White Bay and its unique estuarine system. By reintroducing water on to site it begins to return the site back to its natural form, as it used to be a mudflat. A once inaccessible site transformed over the years into a didactic landscape where White Bay used to be a "space" that became a "place". A place with iconic Sydney Harbour views, the attraction of the waters edge and a spectrum of activities that help contribute to an individual's connection to the place. By catering complex programs on the site it will attract visitors in which they can begin to adopt good memories that enable them to return. The project aims to inspire individuals to make White Bay their choice of destination.
